Mrs Joanne Boyd
Head of Year 11, Lead for Teacher Training & Teacher of English
Miss Payn moved to the Island with her family when she was 8 years old and was educated in Island schools. At the end of her secondary education she achieved A levels in History, Geography and General Studies and then went on to obtain an undergraduate degree in American Studies and History from Keele University.
Following that, she went on to gain a TEFL qualification in Teaching English as Foreign Language and worked for Wight International Language Schools, teaching foreign business clients. After returning from travelling around the world Miss Payn worked at the Isle of Wight College teaching various TEFL programmes and Access History.
Miss Payn embarked on the GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme) to become a fully qualified Secondary School Teacher in History in 2007. She has taught a range of subjects, including History, Geography and English, in both Island Middle and Secondary Schools and has also held the position of KS3 History Co-ordinator.
Miss Payn enjoys music, playing both the flute and piano and has developed a keen interest in the History of the Island along with its art and literary culture.
I endeavour to apply my knowledge to ensure that pupils strive to reach their full potential and believe that the ethos of the Island Free School provides the perfect conditions in which students feel safe, confident and able to achieve.
I am looking forward to making a valid contribution to such an innovative school.
