The school day includes a compulsory enrichment hour at the end of the day – the aim of this is to support our pupils by widening their skills, and raising their aspirations.
This also allows all pupils to participate, especially those who rely on school transport. All staff will take part, both as teachers and learners, alongside coaches from clubs in our local community.
The Enrichment programme is broken into three distinct areas.
Enrichment
For example:
Sports – We have strong links with a variety of local organisations. In KS4, all pupils are directed to participate in at least one sporting activity as part of their enrichment programme, to ensure that they adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Music lessons – All pupils are expected to play at least one instrument. As they grow in proficiency, they are actively encouraged to support younger and less able musicians in a coaching role.
Drama – Pupils can become involved in school productions from acting and singing to directing and staging.
Dance – Pupils are offered the opportunity to study ballet and contemporary dance.
Intervention activities
For example:
Prep club – This supports pupils to complete homework/prep for their next lesson and is compulsory once a week.
Core curriculum support – This provides a catch-up opportunity for pupils whose attainment is below national expected levels. Parent/pupil reading programmes are being developed based on those used in local primary schools.
Revision and coursework classes – These run throughout KS4 to support pupils in achieving their potential in all core and option subjects.
Extension activities
For example:
Pupil newspaper / radio – News and current affairs are covered by our young journalists who promote the school in our community via these media outlets.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – KS4 pupils will have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
