Mr Ashley Wright

Head of History & Practitioner for Teaching and Learning

Mr Wright grew up in Plymouth and achieved A-levels in History, English, Christian Theology and General Studies at St Boniface College. He then studied History at Canterbury Christ Church University, which included a six months placement at Universitie Catholique De Lille in France. In 2014 Mr Wright completed a PGCE at Aberystwyth University in Wales.

Mr Wright’s hobbies include playing clarinet, piano and saxophone. He has also played for the Isle of Wight Rugby Club since 2014. Mr Wright loves travelling; his favourite destination is Burma (Myanamar).

Experience

Before studying for his PGCE, Mr Wright worked as a Learning Support Assistant at Chelfham Senior School – a school for behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. On his placement in Wales he taught at Crickhowell High School in the Brecon Beacons, before spending four months at Bro Gwaun in Fishguard.

Before joining The Island Free School, Mr Wright taught for three years at Cowes Enterprise College as a History teacher. He was also a Crew Captain, helping with the running of inter house events.

My Goals

My aim is to make History fun and accessible for all. If you stop learning, you stop creating history and become history.
