On Friday, it was the turn of TIFS Year 9 girls’ cricket team to travel to Bristol to represent the Isle of Wight. This was a competition for Year 10s, so our team certainly had their work cut out for them!

In their first game, TIFS took on Redruth School, and were rather generous in wides and extras to allow Redruth amass a total of 91. However, having chased a high total down in the IOW final, our girls batted well but then lost several wickets in a very short space of time. It was captain Ella W with an amazing 35 “not-outs” who steadied the ship, and in a nail-biting finish scamper a run off the last ball to take TIFS’ total to 92!

The second game versus Cheltenham Ladies’ College saw TIFS bat first. Intelligent batting by Mia, Olivia and Ella helped TIFS reach a score of 80. However, this was very quickly chased down by the Cheltenham team who demonstrated impressive batting and swift running between the stumps.

Finally, in the third game TIFS took on South Dartmoor College, who have been National Champions for the past couple of years. TIFS batted first and reached a satisfactory score of 75, but again long hits and quick running saw the Devon team chase the total down.

It was a day of cricket played at an incredibly high standard, and the lessons learnt by TIFS should stand us in good stead to come back next year; older, stronger and wiser.
