Today we said a fond farewell to our year 11 pupils. Following the Spanish GCSE this morning, the main hall was transformed from an exam room back to its traditional theatre setting. The 2021 cohort, accompanied by their mentors, took their seats for their Leavers’ Ceremony.
Firstly, Mrs Boyd spoke to the pupils, reminding them of how far they have come since their unusual start during Covid. She praised their resilience, their wide range of skills and their kindness towards one another. She also felt it important to mention Mr Milton (as their first Head of Year) and all he has done to help shape where this cohort are today.
Following Mrs Boyd’s speech, pupils were treated to a walk down memory lane with a slideshow of fantastic photos from their 5 years with us. Mrs Brett then took to the stage to make an emotional farewell of her own, explaining how important her role supporting the year group has been for her. She said that seeing the pupils through their entire time with us, has been a privilege and meant so much to her. Both Mrs Boyd and Mrs Brett vocalised how proud they are of all the year group.
Mr Boyd addressed the pupils for the final time, offering some amusing anecdotes and sage advice, before presenting the TIFS flag to Jake, as this year’s worthy recipient. Pupils then came forward to be given their yearbooks, before embarking on the traditional walk of fame, cheered on by pupils from the younger years, who lined the route as year 11’s made their way to the next part of the celebrations.
The afternoon saw pupils attend their Leavers’ BBQ over on the field at Rew Valley. The annual staff v pupil game of rounders took place ending with the staff rounders team pulling off an unlikely 5 – 2.5 win against Rubeum. To say that Year 11 were shocked would be quite an understatement! The remainder of the afternoon was spent with staff and pupils alike writing messages and good wishes in the yearbooks, before pupils left us for the final time as a whole cohort. Thank you to all staff involved in making today a lovely experience and to the 2021 Cohort, we wish you the very best for the future and look forward to sharing Results Day with you on Thursday 20th August!
