U15 Girls Cricket Finals

This week the U15 Girls cricket team went to the Island indoor cricket finals at Medina. The first game saw them come up against CTK. After losing the toss we were asked to bowl first. CTK made a good start in the opening overs, but an amazing over from Anna saw the fall of 4 wickets in a single over, to turn the game on its head. This followed by a very impressive over and a half from Flo which saw 5 dot balls and 3 wickets to bowl CTK out for 42. We soon set about chasing the score down, despite losing our first wicket off the first ball of the innings, Jess W and Jess G steadied the ship with the latter retiring bringing Mia in to support Jess W, to see us over the line in the 3rd over.

Our second game put us up against Carisbrooke. This time Jess G was successful at the toss and elected to bowl first after the success of game 1. Jess G got the ball rolling with 3 wickets falling in the first over, Mia followed up with a wicket of her own in the 2nd over. Anna and Jess W got in on the act with a wicket each, leaving Flo to bowl a further 5 dot balls and a wicket to see Carisbrooke end up on 26. Esme and Jess W opened the batting but were run out by some very impressive Carisbrooke fielding. Mia and Jess G formed their usual partnership with some quick running and tactical placement of the ball, to see them quickly chase the score down within 2 overs.

Winning our 2 group’s games secured us a place in the final against a strong Ryde School team, after they too won their group. In a hotly contested ‘rock, paper, scissors’ Jess won the toss and again chose to bowl first. The first over saw Jess G dismiss their opening 2 batters for 0 runs. The Ryde middle order began to rebuild and some good running saw the total quickly begin to amount. A few quick wickets in the middle overs and some exceptional fielding saw us reduce Ryde to 59 runs off their 8 overs. The girls’ spirits were high but the job was only half done. The Jess duo opened the batting and some good running saw us hit the ground running but a great run out saw Jess W dismissed. Jess G quickly retired bringing Mia and Anna to the crease. We kept the scoreboard ticking over with the 60 creeping closer. Ryde bowled very tight and managed to take a few quick wickets and it wasn’t long until Jess G returned. Jess G put in a captain’s performance with the bat hitting a 6 to take us over the line in the 6th over.

It was a great afternoon and some fantastic cricket was played by all. Well done to Jess G, Mia L, Anna A, Jess W, Flo W, Esme H and Emma B
