Shakespeare Schools Festival

‘Creative, playful and inventive…’ words used to describe The Island Free School’s performance of Hamlet on Monday 16th November as part of the country wide.

29 Year 8 students took to the stage to give an incredible performance of this 30 minute adaptation, presenting a vaudeville circus to reflect the theme of illusion.

For 12 Years old they performed with a maturity far beyond their years and had the audience on the edge of their seats as Opheila plunged to her death.

Mrs Steele said,’ there are too many moments of brilliance to mention them all but I was blown away by the professionalism of these students and by their commitment as a cast to tell this story, knowing that they each knew the meaning behind the words. I have never seen such raw emotion in performers so young. They took my breath away and as a school we are immensely proud of them all.’

The cast were ably supported by the back stage crew and our students also controlled the sound and lighting for the performance. A fantastic opportunity for these students.

Thank you to all of the support from parents we are now looking forward to our school production later in the summer term.
We will share more production images in due course.
