Pupils and staff from The school have spent the past few weeks rehearsing and performing in the Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival. On Friday 13th of March the entire school performed Adele’s Someone like you in the Making Music class. The entire school sang accompanied by 8 cellos and 20 violins.

Other highlights included;

Bede Revert, Tom Watson, Charlie Walford, Oliver Glanville, Jacob Harvey, Ella Gregory and Megan Rasmussen singing in vocal solo classes with Megan, Bede and Charlie being placed in the top three for their class.

The school choir sang (and signed) Bob Chilcotts ‘Can you hear me?’ in the choral classes. This piece is sung from the perspective of a deaf child and includes sign language in the chorus, which they have all been brilliant at learning. They also sang ‘Winter Solstice’ by Katherine Lucas. The adjudicator had some lovely things to say about our performance and the choir came second in the class.

Sunday was rock and pop day and Molly Packer won her class performing ‘Defying Gravity’ from the musical ‘Wicked’.

Other festival successes included the drama dualogue class, which featured Ella Gregory and Millie Jackman securing 3rd place medals; the class also secured 4th, 5th and 6th placements.

In the hotly contested Brass classes , Ted Henly gained a First Place, Amber Newman and Jess Mudge both received Second Placings. Further success came in the Piano competition with Polly Whitfield securing a Third Place in the Piano solo class, Cameron Tarry a Second and Alfie Price who won the Piano class competition.

Those whose performances did not place, yet deserve special commendation for some wonderful playing include: Caitlin Calder on the Piano, Louis Hutchings, Shanti Mayne and Lydia Bryant on the Trumpet and Mia Gerty on Horn.

An enormous well done to all students who participated in the competition, and a special thank you to Mrs Riches for putting in so much time, effort and dedication to the festival.
