Mr Steph Boyd

Headmaster

Mr Boyd has a strong track record as a teacher and senior leader, on and off the Island.

During his career Mr Boyd has taught Maths, PE and Religious Education, been Head of Maths and PE departments, as well as being Assistant Headteacher in charge of Maths, ICT and Business Studies. He has been Headmaster of The Island Free School since it first opened in 2014, working tirelessly to promote high educational outcomes for island pupils.

Before teaching, Mr Boyd worked as a sailing instructor and mountain guide. He has taught hockey and rugby up to county level.

Experience

Mr Boyd has a wealth of experience at senior leadership level, as well as teaching and behaviour management skills which have been recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. He is respected by his colleagues for his commitment to teaching and learning.

His reputation is such that he was brought in to help support an Island school that had been failed by Ofsted. Within 18 months the school was judged to be ‘good’.

My Goals

I was once told that good leaders are supposed to have visions not goals. My goal is to be a good leader, so every day work hard to develop and deliver my vision of an extraordinary school.

Through hard work and enthusiasm I hope to inspire those around me to do the same. It is my hope that their hard work will build the confidence they need to develop extraordinary visions of their own.
