On Tuesday 4th October, 15 boys from years 8 and 9 travelled to Southampton to play in their first rugby tournament of the season. The standard of the competition was incredibly high this year with a total of 36 teams competing.
TIFS had an impressive morning session after a 3-0 victory in their first match against Noadswood School, with tries from Ben O, Tom C and Sonny M. The boys’ winning streak continued with further tries scored by Reece G, Finley L, Louis W and Jack T, and beating several other teams to be placed into the Pool of Champions,.
Later in an exciting game against Hounsdown School, despite an incredible display of defence the team unfortunately lost their first game of the day. In their final match TIFS almost snatched victory from champions Wyvern College, however a disallowed try meant that the boys lost 2-0 and they finished the tournament in 3rd place overall.
Rugby coach Mr Marriott commented, “It is an incredible achievement to finish 3rd against some brilliant teams across Hampshire. The experience that the boys will take away from the day will no doubt make themselves and the team even stronger for a promising future ahead.”
