On Saturday 6th December, The Island Free School hosted Ryde Independent school for the second of two year 7 boys rugby fixtures.
An early kick off on what proved to be a very cold but sunny morning made ball handling hard as the players warmed to the game. Fumbles in the first few minutes led to tries for both sides with Ryde edging ahead by a conversion. Aggressive defence and decisive running in attack saw The Free School pull clear 19 -7 by half time.

In the second half Ryde played a faster attacking game which allowed them to break through the front line defence of The Free School. Only some excellent cover defence by full back Alfie Price kept the visitors out. As the second half progressed The Free School forwards began to dominate rucks and mauls allowing the half backs to run in several unopposed tries. The Free School won convincingly 31-7.
Both teams then returned to the main school for a cooked lunch and a tour of the school site.
