Clash of the rugby titans

The Island Free School boys’ rugby team played Ryde School on Saturday 22nd November – and what a match it turned out to be! A large crowd made up of parents and staff turned up to roar both teams on in what was a closely fought game, and the first ever match played by our Year 7 team.

The teams were well matched with Ryde proving superior at the breakdown, and The Island Free School more aggressive in attack out wide. Fantastic defending by both teams kept the score tight throughout and honours were even with three tries apiece at the final whistle.

Huge congratulations to all the boys and to Head of PE, Mr Malkin, for a fantastic result in their first match for the school. All the boys from both schools then enjoyed a great lunch together in Ryde School’s dining hall.

Mr Malkin commented: “Our thanks to Ryde School for an excellent game and their outstanding hospitality. Next time – we’ll pull out all the stops, so watch out lads!”

On Saturday 6th December, The Island Free School will host a return match against Ryde at home in Ventnor. Please come along and lend your support if you can.
