On The 21st June 2019, 21 Year 9 pupils went out on their 100+km hike across the Island. On the first day, we planned our maps and did some team activities. Then we walked down to the scout hut where we set up our tents and played some games. On Tuesday, in the pouring rain, we set out at 9:30 am for our first 26km walk from Ventnor to Compton Farm. After we reached Compton we got to relax for a bit while we set up for the night, Inspired by the DofE walks, the two groups made some tortellini for their evening meal. We all woke up bright and early Wednesday and started the second leg of your hike which was a 28km walk from Compton to Corf Camp via the Needles, where we stopped off for some mini golf and ice cream! When we arrived at Corf Camp we were greeted with some games of archery and Mr. Quinlan buying loads of pizzas from dominos! On Thursday we started the longest walk of them all; the walk from Corf Camp to Bembridge. We had to get the bus from Newport to Ryde and then hike from Ryde to Bembridge. As we entered Bembridge Mr. Quinlan and Mr. Hooper told us that we couldn’t enter the scout hut till 8 pm, so we went to a restaurant to have some food before we went in to the hut. Finally, it came to the last day of our hike – our 18km walk from Bembridge back to School. This walk consisted of another game of mini golf along Sandown seafront. When we got back to school on Friday we had a quick debrief about the week and that we can now say that we have walked 128km around the Island!
