This year’s Bonnie Challenge and Sports Day took place on Wednesday, to try and avoid any overheating in the year’s hottest week so far. Our youngest pupils set the tempo of the day by completing The Bonnie Challenge – our traditional 1km run up St Boniface Downs which our year 7’s complete each year. Some had heard stories of the harsh terrain, some had the luxury of trying out the route in their trail running enrichment, whilst others eagerly anticipated this challenge.
As the year 7’s approached the final 500m, a sea of blue, yellow, pink, red and green could be seen as the rest of the school cohorts cheered the runners on to the finish line. Red faces, faces of relief, faces of excitement and faces of joy were evident as they completed the race. Rafi W (year 9) held the title from 2020 for the fastest male runner, however his time was beaten by Seb F (7 Caesitas) by 4 seconds to make the new TIFS record of 3.22 which is a fantastic time!. Maisey K (year 11) has held the title since 2018 with 3.33; this year Polly R (7 Rubeum) came the closest to this, with a time of 3.49 putting her in 3rd place on the leaderboard – again another fantastic achievement.
After everyone had cooled down from the excitement of the Bonnie Challenge, it was on to Sports Day which took place, as usual, at Rew Valley. Activities included traditional field and track events alongside a more modern addition of indoor athletics and a multiskills relay. Across the afternoon all year groups took part in all activities, hoping for scores within the white colour code which offered the highest number of points for their house. The high jump competition was heating up between houses and there were some very close races between staff and pupils on the track. Faces of determination on the staff were seen in their bid to outdo the pupils and other houses. As the afternoon came to a close, pupils eagerly awaited the results. Year 7 Rubeum were crowned the winners of the 2022 Bonnie Challenge scoring the most points, but would it help them win the overall Sports Day Championship? ….
With a huge 7481 points, Rubeum were crowned the overall Champions of the day! Cheers filled the air whilst Kaitlyn M and Louie F, both in year 10, collected the house trophy.
Overall it was a fantastic day, pupils were amazing and never let the heat stop them from performing amazingly. Everyone involved showed the usual TIFS enthusiasm and sportsmanship, well done to everyone.
