For the last RE and Curriculum day of the academic year, year 7, 8 and 9 TIFS pupils were off timetable learning various topics in depth.

Year 7 spent their last RE day of the year revisiting Judaism. This time they continued to find out about the ten plagues and delivered a radio broadcast about a particular plague. Pupils had the chance to make a Menorah each, learn about Shabbat and finally the Jewish giving to charity, called Tzedakah. This led nicely into the afternoon sessions which saw each House concentrate on the preparation for Summer Show charity stalls next week.

Year 8 pupils engaged with a series of activities around gender equality. The day started with an assembly with author and journalist Chris Hemmings who recently published ‘Be a Man’ which addresses issues of gender equality within society. Pupils listened intently to Chris who spoke about his past experiences in order to allow pupils to reflect on their position and responsibilities in society. Pupils then had sessions with Mrs Suter, Miss Hart and Miss McGovern covering these issues through a variety of practical and lecture style activities.

Year 9’s theme was continuing with Science vs Religion. Looking at ethics and morals surrounding both topics combined with the ramifications of genetically modified humans. This prompted a mature, in-depth discussion and some fabulous pieces of work were produced.
