Year 7 pupils spent the morning studying Islam. Pupils used strips of coloured paper to create prayer mats, the prayer mats have been weaved together to create various patterns and colours. Pupils also spent time watching an animated video which explained Zarat; the third pillar of Islam- this represented giving, purity and charity. From this, Year 7’s discussed what charity meant to them and why it is important.

Year 8 Pupils also studied Islam, yet they focused on discrimination and the foundation of Islam. Pupils created fascinating Islamic art and looked at judgement day- in which they studied and identified what they consider a good person to be. Pupils also looked at Islamic celebrations including Eid and Ramadan.

Year 9 pupils focused on refugees, looking at perceptions of refugees, why people become refugees and definitions of refugees/migrants and asylum seekers. Pupils watched a wide range of real-life accounts of case studies surrounding these topics, creating newspaper headlines and front pages from these studies. Pupils completed Life in the UK citizenship questionnaires, and engaged in various thought provoking conversations whilst gaining an insight into the life of refugees.
