On Thursday 7th July, a group of Year 10 pupils visited Portsmouth University as part of our Careers Programme.

The day began with an introduction to Higher Education, where they discovered that there are 50,000 university courses available in the UK.

The group had the opportunity to hear from student ambassadors about their journeys from secondary school to university, and the subjects they studied prior to HE. The group also had a Q&A session with a Sports Marketer from Portsmouth Football Club who highlighted how your interests and hobbies can open up a huge array of careers and not just the obvious job roles.

Pupils were astonished to find that the university library alone is approximately the same size as the entire TIFS building, and there are currently 24,000 students enrolled at Portsmouth University. They also had a look inside halls of residence, which tied in nicely to a workshop on student finance, where they explored budgeting.

Pupils also engaged really well with a student wellbeing workshop, focusing on the support available for uni students and the different ways pupils can manage stress and anxiety.

The day was very informative, and helped pupils to start thinking about the different opportunities available to them after their GCSEs.
