Year 7 Activities Week

This year’s Italy experience started with a visit to the incredible site of Pompeii. Pupils were given an insight into life in Pompeii through an interactive and engaging tour. They were taken across the city and shown a typical wealthy person’s house, a typical shop, the arena, remaining examples of political propaganda and even taught about the city’s sewage system! The tour finished in the forum, overlooked by mighty Mount Vesuvius, where pupils were able to truly realise the suffering of the people during the catastrophic eruption. After Pompeii, a slice of pizza and a cold drink was followed by a short journey back to Sorrento, where pupils had the awesome opportunity to make gelato (ice cream) with Maria. Donning their hairnets, pupils made fresh lemon sorbet, with the famous Sorrento lemons, and delicious hazelnut gelato.

On the second day, pupils took a four hour journey to Rome where they were able to see (thanks to their teachers’ adept map reading skills) some of the city’s most famous sites; The Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum and The Pantheon.

On the final day of their trip, all 70 students successfully completed the challenging ascent up Mount Vesuvius – a superb achievement! At the top, pupils enjoyed their packed lunches as they looked down onto the cities of Pompeii and Sorrento.
