Teacher of Art & Design

Miss Powell is a passionate and creative educator with a background in Media, English, and Art. She grew up on the Isle of Wight before pursuing a First-Class Honours Degree in Creative Arts from Bath Spa University, where her studies focused on Art and Creative Writing. She later completed her PGCE in Secondary Art & Design through the University of Portsmouth.

Experience

With a love for both visual and written storytelling, Miss Powell’s expertise spans photography, painting, digital art and printmaking, alongside journalism, scriptwriting, and film studies. She has written and published music and art exhibition reviews, combining her interest in the media industry with her love of creative practice.

Her teaching is rooted in the belief that creativity and analytical thinking go hand in hand. She encourages pupils to explore and interpret media, literature, and visual art in ways that build confidence, independence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

My Goals

I believe that education should inspire curiosity, creativity, and independent thought. My goal is to help every pupil develop the skills and confidence to express themselves – whether through writing, digital design, or print-based media.

I am committed to creating an environment where pupils feel valued and supported in their learning. By fostering both analytical and creative skills, I aim to equip them with the tools they need to succeed academically and beyond. Most importantly, I want every pupil to leave my lessons feeling inspired, capable, and excited to explore new possibilities.
