Visit from an Isle of Wight Author

As part of our Inspire Careers programme, Year 7 were given a presentation by Isle of Wight Author and Illustrator Megan Hewison on what it is like to work in a creative industry. Megan recently won the children’s book award at the Isle of Wight Book Awards for her book “My Friends by the Beach”. Megan delivered a comprehensive and informative talk which was highly entertaining. Pupils found it really interesting to see the process of how a comic style novel is developed from start to finish. They also appreciated the honesty with which Megan discussed the challenges of getting her work published and were encouraged by her message that rejection isn’t the end of the line in publishing.

As a writer with Special Educational Needs, Megan was truly inspirational to meet. When the floor was opened up for questions, Year 7 bubbled over with curiosity. They were inquisitive about a range of topics from dealing with writer’s block, to the profits from publishing, to Megan’s many pets!”

We wish to thank Megan for giving her time to inspire our pupils.
