TIFS rise to Vestas Challenge

Today 5 pupils from our 3D printing enrichment visited Vestas in Newport for a test of beam designs that the pupils had created in the enrichment. The group had previously visited the site with 6 other schools to get a range of challenges around developing structures used in the wind energy industry. They returned today to deliver their presentations and have their beam designs stress tested.

The teams were scored on company development, weight of final design, load bearing strength and bonus elements of the project. TIFS came joint 3rd out of seven schools. Pupils said the event was really fun and it was great to see how other teams approached the various challenges. Our team came away with plenty of ideas on where to make improvements and are keen to return next year.

Many thanks to the team at Vestas for putting on a great event, and for giving us insights into the developments of wind energy technology.
