On Friday 3rd February, we visited Teemill in Freshwater with a group of Year 11 pupils for the second Industry Insight trip of the term.
The team at Teemill introduced the values behind the business, and demonstrated how sustainability and green manufacturing play a major role in this global brand. Pupils spoke to colleagues in a variety of areas; graphic and fashion design, marketing, content creation and social media, operations, software and digital, photography, and manufacturing itself. The factory was impressive, and pupils were interested in learning about the smart ways of enhancing production. Pupils asked a lot of insightful questions about the business, the different career journeys people had taken to this point, and the opportunities within Teemill for young people.
Co-founder Rob was very relatable, having grown up on the Isle of Wight with the expectation that there are limited opportunities for work – and he proved that this simply isn’t the case anymore as he highlighted some exciting, professional roles, work experience and training available for school leavers. Pupils left the tour with a positive attitude towards their individual career goals, and some keen to apply for apprenticeships and casual work at Teemill itself.
Thank you to Rob and the team for being so welcoming and for giving us a thorough insight into the world of sustainable circular economy.
