On Friday 24th February, we were delighted to host musicians from the Royal Marines Band Service to deliver a workshop to our KS4 Jazz Ensemble. The Royal Marines performed a jazz number, showcasing their improvisation skills and how they work together as an ensemble. Pupils then performed a piece they have been working on in enrichment, before being joined by the marines who helped develop their skills further as Jazz musicians. Our musicians learnt more about communication and how to play solos within a group.

A careers presentation was then delivered by CPL Aaron Pitman, which was especially interesting as he had grown up on the island before joining the RM Band Service. Pupils then learnt two more numbers and, by the end of the day, they were confidently playing pieces they hadn’t seen before, performing improvised solos and generally sounding absolutely incredible!
