On Friday 21st October, all pupils were off timetable for the first R.E day of the academic year. Year 7 took part in sessions throughout the day where they explored Christianity. They studied the story of the Good Samaritan and the meaning of Harvest around the world. Pupils also visited the local Trinity Church where they were given a tour by Reverend Hugh, and also worked together to build churches from cardboard boxes.

In Year 8, pupils learned about Hinduism. They explored the story of Ganesh, the Hindu creation story and life in India through drama and storyboards. Pupils spent an enjoyable day with their mentors making colourful elephants from milk bottles, and also creating Rangoli patterns similar to those used during Diwali.

Year 9 focused on Philosophy and Ethics, which began with an enlightening introduction by guest lecturer Dr Bob Plimer. Dr Plimer introduced the ancient Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, the development of philosophy and application of philosophy and ethics to daily life. Pupils partook in a variety of sessions where they considered a range of philosophical questions including the validity of real life experiences, different types of conflict, what constitutes a Just War and how different religions justify conflict.

Overall it was an enjoyable, informative and thought-provoking day!
