Our transition Days

On Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd July we warmly welcomed Year 6 for their transition days ahead of them joining us in September.

Mr Boyd started our first transition day with our now infamous treasure chest. Setting students a cryptic puzzle in order to find the combination code. We had high hopes for an uncrackable code but congratulations must go to Riley Horrix who had the puzzle solved and the prize won by 5pm. Congratulations Riley!

Thursday saw students meeting their mentors for the first time before experiencing a range of lessons from writing Latin postcards, making pop up volcano cards, dressing up in History and superheroes in Drama. Students also had the opportunity to play a range of musical instruments to help them choose their enrichment instrument. In the evening students returned with their parents for our parent mentor meetings.

Friday focused on our music specialism with the ACM London Gospel Choir visiting the school for the day. The choir were nothing short of outstanding, inspiring and encouraging our students in their singing. They worked with year 6 students in the morning and after a lively warm up started teaching our students, ‘Best Day of my Life,’ by American Authors before a Katy Perry and Sarah Bareilles medley. The choir then worked with our current Year 7s before the school joined together to perform what they had learnt in the day.

While our current year group worked with the choir in the afternoon our Year 7 sports leaders ran a series of PE activities with our Year 6 students. They demonstrated excellent leadership skills and were a credit to the school.

Mrs Steele commented, “I could not be more thrilled with how these two days have gone. Our new students have approached their transition days with complete enthusiasm and positivity. Hearing the school sing together at the end of Friday was a very special moment and the sound they produced was incredible. I’d like to say a huge thank you to ACM Gospel Choir and I can not wait to welcome our new year 7s back to the school in September.”
