On Friday 21st November, The Island Free School welcomed Olympic athlete Rebekah Wilson, a bobsleigh team member for Great Britain. Pupils arrived at the school in their PE kit and began the morning with a challenging fitness session led by the sportswoman. Later in the day, Miss Wilson ran a wonderful assembly and explained to the students the value of healthy living and the dedication that is required to become an Olympic athlete.

After the assembly, students in our radio club had the opportunity to interview our celebrity guest. Throughout the day, pupils from the school raised over £1,200 in aid of Sports for Champions, a charity that supports young athletes to ensure they are able to access the right training and become tomorrow’s champions.

Mr Malkin, Head of PE and Enrichment commented: “Many thanks to Miss Wilson, who I suspect has just inspired 125 students to become bobsleigh champions. It was a fantastic day for us all and we raised a staggering amount for charity – well done everyone.”
