Sensational Singers Take Festival By Storm!

It has been an immensely successful week for The Island Free School’s talented vocalists, who have competed in an array of classes at the IOW Music, Dance & Drama Festival. TIFS got off to a flying start when Year 7 pupils Ada K-S and Emily C won their Vocal Duet class with Distinction. Emily and Ada also achieved 1st and 2nd place respectively in their Solo class. Our winning streak continued as Lea-Lou P in Year 9 won 1st place in her Solo class with a beautiful rendition of Aaron Copland’s ‘Simple Gifts’. Abbie R came a very close 2nd, and Ella G achieved 3rd place. Lylah M in Year 7 also achieved 2nd place in her Solo class on Friday. She performed “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” from My Fair Lady, and was graded ‘Commended’. To top off a string of fantastic vocal performances from our pupils, the school choir gained a well-deserved 1st place against Ryde and Priory Schools’ choirs on Thursday. They performed “How can I keep from singing?” and “Skyfall”, and were graded with a Distinction.

“I am tremendously proud of the choir and all of our soloists, particularly as for many this was their first experience of singing in a competitive setting. They all sounded absolutely brilliant!” – Mrs Riches, Head of Music.

Throughout the coming week, pupils will be entering the Drama section of the festival, and a number of our musicians will be competing in various instrumental classes. Parents are very welcome to come along and show support!
