More Brilliant Badminton leads to Hampshire Finals!

On Tuesday our KS3 badminton players attended the Island Finals at CTK. Having won all of their games in the previous heat, they went into the finals full of confidence. The boys were matched up against a very strong group consisting of Ryde School, CTK and Cowes. Both Seb and Noah played some great shots and were very unlucky to narrowly lose their opening 2 games against Ryde School and CTK. They didn’t let that dampen their spirits and went on to convincingly win their final game against Cowes. They both played with great spirit and fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship.

On the other court, the girls, having won all their games in the previous heat, found themselves in a great position – making up 2 of the final 4 teams. Polly and Anna paired themselves up as they had previously been so successful, and soon found themselves sailing into an uncatchable lead. A great comeback from CTK made for an interesting final few points but the girls pulled through to win their first game. Full of confidence, Polly headed back to the court, this time paired with Mio to again play against CTK. Both girls raced into rhythm, playing some great shots and displaying some high tactical skills. Soon enough they found themselves achieving the second win for TIFS in as many games. Polly and Anna returned to play their final game as a pair knowing that all we needed was 1 win from the final 2 games to all but secure a place at the Hampshire finals. They carried their form through the match to win their 3rd game in a row and Polly and Mio soon made it 4 from 4, securing their place at the Hampshire finals in February.

It was a great event held at CTK and there was some fantastic badminton on display from the boys and the girls. All players showed fantastic sportsmanship and were a real credit to the school.

Well done all!
