On Saturday 8th October, The Island Free School’s U13 girls hockey and boys rugby teams travelled to Lord Wandsworth College near Basingstoke to participate in the annual independent schools hockey and rugby festival. The event attracts teams from across the South and offers coaches and players the opportunity to blow off the cobwebs in a friendly but competitive environment.
Despite a 5am start for many, TIFS pupils arrived early enough for a quick warm up before their first matches. The girls were placed in the highest of three tiers of competition and held their own against some of the top teams in Hampshire, with memorable draws against the hosts and King Edward’s College. TIFS U13 boys also played well, earning a comfortable win against Portsmouth Grammar School – as well as putting up a strong defence in close games against hosts Lord Wandsworth and Churcher’s Colleges.
Our thanks to the staff and pupils at Lord Wandsworth College for hosting such a memorable event.
