On Thursday 17 March, the Year 7 boys rugby team entered the final stage of the Isle of Wight U12 rugby league at the top of the group. The boys went into their first game against a strong Sandown Bay Academy team, the boys rose to the challenge and played excellently, confidently winning 4-0.

The second game was against a new opponent to the boys, Medina College. Despite this the boys went out with great confidence and again played well, passing the ball fantastically to come out on top 6-0.

Our final game was against Cowes Enterprise College the only team to beat us this season, so the boys were ready for a tough game. This challenge fuelled the boys to play some of their best rugby of the season and convincingly came out 5-1 winners, never taking the pressure off of CEC.

These results lead to the boys only losing one game all season and deservedly gaining the title of 2016 U12 IOW rugby champions.

An unbelievable achievement for the boys, of whom most were new to rugby. The progress shown by the boys is a true reflection of their dedication, excellent effort and attitude all term. A special thank you must go out to Coach Marriot from all the boys and PE department here at The Island Free School, for his excellent work with the team.
