Last week Geography pupils from TIFS had the opportunity to visit local beaches. As part of GCSE Geography, pupils are required to undertake fieldwork outside of the school grounds. On Monday, Year 10 pupils went down to Ventnor to study the coastal defences and carry out beach profiles. It was very busy on the beach and we’re not entirely sure what the holiday makers made of our pupils measuring the shape of the beach! However, the group were commended on their behaviour by some observers.

On Thursday pupils went to Totland to see how the village has changed since the 1950s, by completing a land-use map, and to investigate the environmental quality of the village. They also found local people who they were able to interview regarding changes to the area. The pupils’ behavior and attitude were exemplary.

Pupils then walked down to Totland Bay to see how the sea defences have failed between Totland and Colwell Bays.

The Geologists who have had a triumphant return from Wales, caught up on their fieldwork this week, full of stories of Sid the Geologist!
