Over the last two weeks, year 9 Art, Craft & Design pupils have had the opportunity to take part in the ‘Crossing the Bar’ project.
The project has been organised by the New Carnival Company as part of the Walking Festival, the Crossing the Bar project was devised to celebrate heritage sites across the island with art installations & live performances taking place in selected locations.
Pupils had the opportunity to visit Ventnor Botanic Gardens in order to gain inspiration for their designs and then took part in two workshops run by New Carnival artist Gina Dyer. Pupils had a wonderful time creating exciting willow sculptures which will be on display at the Botanics during the festival’s event.
All families and members of the public are welcome to take part in the event day on Friday 14th October.
As it is part of the Walking Festival, there are three circular walks from Ventnor Botanic Gardens which will allow visitors to see these sculptures. One walk being a short walk of 2.5 miles which sets off at 2pm and a longer walk of 5 miles setting off at 1pm. There is also a shorter accessible walk around the garden at 2.30pm.
