45 pupils from Year 7, and 4 teachers went on an activities trip to the Manor House Hotel in Okehampton, Devon. Over the course of 4 days, we crammed in over 30 activities, starting with a Scavenger Hunt around the massive site and finishing with basketball and target bowls. Pupils were divided into four groups, Celts, Romans, Spartans and Vikings and competed to score points for their teams in ten different sports, three different craft activities, air rifle and pistol shooting, archery, dance workshops (which we recorded for posterity!) and walks on Dartmoor. We also found the time for a movie night, roller disco and time in the fun house and game zone at the hotel!
Meal times were very popular with a massive buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving different foods every day. We had our own dining room, which was lucky for our less talented archers who had to shoot for their cutlery one lunchtime – no names, but someone had to eat their whole lunch with only two teaspoons!
We finished up with a certificate ceremony to celebrate some of the success from the week; some serious, some silly and made it back just in time for the boat back. Final scores were: Vikings – 53 points, Spartans – 67 points, Romans – 73 points and Celts – 85 points!
